What is SEO or SEM?
The abbreviation SEO and or SEM stands for Search Engine Optimization, and Search Engine Marketing. In simple terms, it is the method of how to get a content found on a search engine when someone types in a word or a phrase into the search bar. Different engines are Google, Yahoo, Bing, Ask, and there are many others. These different SE go out there and look for different items, different data, and content to give the viewer (what the computer bot) thinks is the best results for the user’s search.

So what why does that matter?
Depending on the statistics about 2/3s of all searches are done on mobile devices (including iPads, and tablets), all the data is showing these numbers are climbing. More and more searches are being completed, because customers are looking for relevant content that will help them with that they need and or want.
What does Optimizing something mean?
This is when the builder of a company page, content within a page, a website, or more, all have items within them that help the spider bots to pick that page and put it in front of all of the other pages out there. A page that has good optimization is almost like a store having a good location. But depending on the amount of competition will depend on how traffic it will generate. (For example – there will be less competition for a business selling ice in Alaska, and more competition for a plastic surgeon in California.)
Does the Optimization need to be updated?
Some fear the updates of Google, Penguin, and Panda – but they are there to help improve the user’s experience. Sites can be built to rank and organically rank on the first page of various search engines. There are updates, that can de-rank a website ( for example – move it from page 1 to 300). Sometimes as markets become more saturated, and competition becomes tougher, then updates are recommended. (a surgeon in LA will need to stay on top of their optimization a lot more than a the ice business in Alaska.)
What are the benefits of having all of this in my business?
The websites that the search engines retrieve while doing a search are the sites that the person doing the search sees first. Some people will stop searching after page one or two, others will keep searching 10 or 15 pages deep. But the sites that are listed 100 pages deep will not get the same amount of people seeing their site as the pages listed on the first page.
Again, research has found that more people are searching online for information and for services. People who do search online, are more informed purchasers, and are easier to convert into a client. Thus the leads generated from a web site with the best SEO and SEM as well as the best content, does generate new clients on a monthly (or seasonal) basis. In the end it is about generating revenue – better leads with better conversions from potential clients searching for to make purchases.
